Dirge??
Well I picked up FFVII Dirge of Cerberus the other day and finally got a chance to pop it in the playstation and play a bit this evening.... I dont quite know what to think of it yet. I completed the first stage...harder than I thought it would be...of course I have absolutely NO skill when it comes to FPS's and for the most part this is pretty FPS intensive gameplay wise. Its got a bit of a Devil May Cry feel to it. Set up in stages with missions to accomplish within each stage...at the end of a stage you get your experience based off of how you did and can trade it in for Gil to buy rather expensive upgrades to your weapons or use it to allocate (you dont get to choose what stats) stats like strength defense and hit points. Between the gameplay difficulty for me with things like having to aim my gun with the right analog stick while running around with the left analog stick and trying to fire my gun with the R1 button, remembering to reload with the R2 button, the camera swinging around to wherever my gun is aimed so I cant see the bastard behind me shotting me let alone see if he is close enough for a quick melee atack to knock him on his ass...I dont think I really like the gameplay...however it will prove to be a good challenge. Graphically its an amazing game....just simply amazing. gets kind of hard to see exactly where some of the bad guys are since you can kind of hang back from where you are supposed to go and look through your scope to find guys to shoot before you get there...but that doesnt really take away from much as long as you aren't trying to scope out guys ahead of you while you are still being shot at, kicked, bitten and stabbed by the guys anc monsters in your current area :P Story wise so far is very promising however...Reeve plays a major catalyst role in the story which I think is pretty cool. I doubt there will be many spoilers in what I'm about to write since I'm just past the first stage but the base story is Reeve calls up Vincent to meet him in Kalm, Vincent shows up during a big festical like thing when this unknown group of soldiers shows up in crazy helicopter like things and lays waste to the place. from there insanity insues and you get shot at a bunch before finally meeting up with reeve and then helping the townspeople get away from the army guys....finally you find out who they are and where they came from (I wont go into all of that because its a nifty little plot twist) and that they want to destroy the world :P good old final fantasy villian tactics eh? So anyway...as I'm not overly impressed or pleased with the gameplay...it could very well be because I just suck ass at FPS style play...not having a nice auto aim like in DMC hurts me although many people would probably call me a pansy for saying that :P I am thouroughly impresed with the initial set up of the story line and therefore remain interested in playing the game...dunno if I could do so for an extended people of time like I can with a good old turn based RPG like the other games though :)

I am glad to see you finally got the game. Your opinions reflect much of how I feel. I have to be the worst when it comes to shooters, and yes, this game is much harder than I first anticipated. DMC and Dirge share much of the same sort of gameplay and Dirge is equally as hard. I really like it so far, but I do walk away from it feeling like I have had to struggle for every bit of headway I have made. I have to say that as far as story and graphics go, I give this game a 9.5 out of 10.

okay I dont know how far anyone is into this game yet...but I made it up to stage 6 and am at a point where there are fifteen helicopters coming after me and four army guys that I'm supposed to protect to get a better grade on the level...I dont have too much trtouble with the first 9 of them...lost all my guys the first time though...used a couple of items and made it through the fight only to die in a later fight and have to do the whole damned thing over again...problem is on the helicopter fight is that the last 5 helicopters come in a wave of two and then a wave of three...they all fire rockets which I can shot out of the sky but have a lot of trouble aiming at, and the fact that there are three helicopters shooting atleast 3-4 missles at the very get go of the fight I lose all of my army guys and dont get a chance to use any items cause I'm too busy trying to save these guys from the mass amount of rockets careening at us at prety insane speeds. I was doing really good and actually gaining some confidence in my playing abilities at this game until this point. its ridiculous that they want me to shoot down three helicopters at once even though I get to sit in a gun turrett, they all fire their weapons way too quick and I really wish there was a way I could kill them before they had a chance to get their shots off even if it meant I had to be insanely good. The annoying part is? I have to start from the beginning of the stage each time I die during this mission.

okay double post....just beat Dirge!!!!! Won't give out much info for those who are playing it/planning on playing it...awesome ending though....well worth the questionable aspects of the game. Seriously though storywise there isnt really anything I would say didnt rule total ass. I passed with a cumulative score rank A I know that wont make much sense but ya know how the end of stages they give you a grade and all...they add it all up at the end too :P Anyway...took a while to get used to the controls...I actually kinda liked em towards the end there and it makes me wonder if all FPS controls are or can be set up like that...if so maybe I'll play more FPS's :P Anyway just wanted to express my glee at beating this game :) and edit to the coublt post...extra hard mode"...enemies are more numerous and viscious than ever before, Vincent will be able to use weapons and gil acquired in a previous playthrough" :P Yeah...right I'm gonna play through this on any other mode but normal :P

I have it too! Very good addition to FFVII! I'm a huge FFVII fan so I love this game no matter what the critics say. The only thing I agree with is the fact this game isnt very accessible for anyone who doesnt know FFVII and FFVII: advent childeren. they will most likely complain about the "bad story" and too much cutscenes (skip option ftw) I havent finished it yet, but I think im close. I'll definetly play it again to get all the upgrades and secrets I missed. (I noticed the shootable targets about halfway through)

DKK- 01-16-2007

yeah the memory capsules are important for some reason or another :P Where abouts are you in the game?

Stevo- 01-17-2007

Lets see... I killed Azul (in his behemoth form)

Stevo- 02-04-2007

I just beat dirge too. But now im wondering how to start a new game with my gil and exp.

DKK- 02-04-2007

you have to play it on the hardest mode to keep all the gil and upgrades...I have yet to try this but on the plus sides is you can spend all of your score points on experience instead of changing it over to gil for upgrades and still make out with a few extra upgrades...on the downside its probably freaking tough!!! :P

Stevo- 02-05-2007

But to get Ultima weapon you need to upgrade the model gun 3 times. Wich costs 250k gil...

DKK- 02-05-2007

I actually missed the model gun altogether in my game :P

Stevo- 02-06-2007

You can find it in the building that boy unlocks in Edge. On the ground level at sniper square. Just turn right the moment your enter. As you may guess its the model gun > silver gun > gold gun is crap. But after that you can turn it into ultima weapon for 200k gil.

DKK- 02-06-2007

yeah I read the whole run down on it...I figured that I got through the game on normal just fine without it...maybe I would need it for the harder modes but the last couple of levels you get the death penalty anyway so what does it REALLY matter :P

TheDoc- 05-02-2007

Overall I thought it was a damn good game, and Vincent Valentine successfully went from background character to a main hero.

DKK- 05-03-2007

he coulda been a main hero in 7 and in many ways kinda sorta was if you got all of the lucretcia sidequest cutscenes and stuff...there were a couple anyway :P I always played Vincent and not only for the triple AP gun he had :P
