Help me choose one! Help me choose one! does anyone have any good games with good long stories in them. im in the market for one to keep me occupied while the family is off all happy and cheery this christmas(makes me sick).

oh jeez...theres tons you could get to take ytou a while. The latest Star Oceans a nice long one...I think I spent 70+ hours on it and didnt even get everything not to mention theres a whole part of the game you can continue to complete after you beat it.
Any of the Playstation FF's can take you a good 40-70 hours...the PS2 ones are a bit shorter however which is unfortunate.
Wild Arms 3 was a good game although as with FFX and X-2 a bit on the shorter side at about 50 hours max.
hope that helped you a bit

No shit DKK! I remember the days when the motor started making funny noises on my ps1 after 3 solid weeks of 90 hour rpg's and never turning the thing off. Now, I can't believe how quickly most rpg's can be conquered. There was a time when an rpg's characters started to seem like family, like people you have known forever. Well anyway, I have ranted long enough.
Oh yeah, a good rpg to play. I would suggest playing Parasite Eve if you haven't. You can usually pick that up for about $12 used, and it will last you a while, even though it isn't amazingly long. Plus, it is a game that kind of goes along with the Holiday Season. Anyway, I'll shut up now. I'm out.

thanks thats great. i already played p.eve. though im interested in wild arms 3. i just wonder weather its in europe or not i don think iv seen it in my local. also does anyone know if its necassary to have completed the first xenosaga in order to play the second one
DKK- 12-06-2005
as for Wild Arms...it should be out everywhere...its been out in the states for well over a year now if not a couple I think...as for Xenosaga YES YES YES you have to play the first before the second because the story just kind of picks up from where the first left off...also they are incredibly short games...I think I spent 25-30 horus on the first...havent played all of the second as I dont own it yet...but from what I've heard its just as short. The other thing about the Xenosaga's is they are much more story than action...in the first one I could have sworn I watched a 25 hour long movie and played a game for five hours. (thats an exaggeration of course...but its not a lot of gameplay at all)

I'm a strong advocate of SNES RPGs (Nothin' beats 'em) but if you can't get ahold of an SNES and you have like, moral issues against illegally playing them on a computer...
The Star Ocean games are good, same with Suikoden. And of course Final Fantasys (Might I suggest Final Fantasy Tactics?)
And I believe I saw somebody suggest Parasite Eve. Excellent choice.

Tactics is a good game...however if you're going to pick an FF game based on time it takes to beat...I can wollop Tactics in under 40 hours minus doing the deep dungeon stuff.
Fury of Polaris- 12-06-2005
True, but that just gives you an excuse to play through again.

indeed....not to mention the large amount of hidden items and recruitable characters and all sorts of fun goodies that belong to that game....dang it now I want to play it!!!!
Fury of Polaris- 12-06-2005
Crap. Yeah, I got sucked in, too. Looks like I'll be playing alot of Tactics this week.

thanks for the advice i got anthology a few days ago but but it doesnt ook that great on the ps, usually i dont mind that but the music is a bit iffy too. feels like im playing an oversized gameboy. i got dark chronicle too and it looks ok(dark cloud 2)
DKK- 12-09-2005
ahhh Dark Cloud....great games...never beat either one of them though...I got all the way up to the last bosses and couldn't beat them...WAYYYYYYYY hard...so my suggestion with those is level up early and level up often. As far as anthology I think the graphics issues and load times have already been discussed...it was a very bad port of the games...anyway if you can get past all of that stuff to be able to pay attention to the story FFV and FFVI are good games...I prefer VI to V but their both FF games and both very good.

Well, what kind of a RPG are you looking for exactly?
There's High Fantasy setting like 'Final Fantasy' and 'Chronotrigger' and whatnot. The japanese turn baset types basically... (Im doomed in this category)
Or are you just looking for any type a RPG such as the Black Isle Franchise "Baldurs Gate" or maybe something along those lines?
If you are just looking for any game where you take up the role of a multy choice storyline I seriusly reccoment 'Fallout 2'. (fallout one is also good but two is much better). But dont expect too hot GFX since it is an old game. This game is great and iencourage everyone to havea try at it.
Another game I Highly reccomend is 'Planescape Torment'. Its truly an awsome fantasy setting. The plot is really multy layered and the suituations you find yourself in at times are often more than hillarius.
And if you dont mind a First Person View 'Deus-Ex' is a futuristic FP-RPG. its not a shoot-em-up (allthough combat will occur) but it deffineatly is a RPG as you can build your stats and choose many different story paths. (Infact, the only possible way to lose the game is by your avatar dying. You can pull anyting else off in this game. You can kill a MAJOR character and the plot will simply adapt to it.)
If you are looking for a Playstation Game, I dont have many answers for you. You could try 'Dark Alliance' one or two, but its basically just a hack 'n slash, not so much a story game. Good sport tho...
Or you could try 'Bards Tale' which is very muchlike Dark Alliance, only alot lot funnyer ^^
paxsean001- 12-11-2005
well i'm thinking about picking up a RPG myself.
Morrinn- 12-12-2005
All the ones I mentioned earlyer is something I strongly reccomend everyone to try.
