Seal Hunting
I got the idea for this thread from Morrinn's Whaling thread. So, what are your thoughts on seal hunting? Do you like the fur coats made from the pelts? Or are you against clubbing seals? Personally, I think that seal hunting is morally and ethically wrong. All the seal pups are guilty of is being born as seals. But these people kill the seal pups for their pelts. As a result, some seal breeds are now endangered. Like whaling, I think seal hunting should cease.

1. If the seals are not endangered and the hunting is done with the concent of natural concerve then Fine. 2. If the Reasons are for research as well as commercial reasons then Fine. 3. If every part of the Seal is utilised (Pelt, bone, meat and all) then fine. 4. As long as it does not threaten any other stock of creatures or Ecosystem then its fine by me. As for your statements above: Morally and Ethically is basically the same thing and can be argued by Three points. Either A. you disprove of taking *any* life (Seals as well as other animals) B. You specifically disprove of Seals (for some reason or another) Or C. You have a problem with us hunting the young. If you picked point A or B, then I cant argue you here. It touches a completely different argument of Vegans vs. Meat eaters to which I'd mostly just laugh and gorge on some Burger in defiance at you. if you picked C. then I'd see your point while raising another. If eating baby *seals* is wrong, then what about other young creatures? Veal? Lambs? What about Kaviar? Think about it.

That can be justified. The meat can be used for food, and the fur used for clothing. I am speaking strictly of people who hunt seals specifically for the pelts. The people who sell these pelts to people who make fur coats. However, your argument is the other side of the coin that I was hoping to get to in another part of the discussion, after the issue with the pelts has been discussed thoroughly. As for veal and lambs, that is another discussion entirely.

In that case I think of it as a waste, but not really a trevesty. As long as the creature is not endangered I dont mind. I often wear Leather gloves, belts. I have a pair of Elk skin work gloves. I have some decorative native fur items around the house and I dont see a problem with any of it.

They should try and club a polar bear instead of defenseless seal cubs. At least you'll have something to brag about wearing a polar bear fur coat. :) You deserved one Conan style! I understand that in some countries its an ancient tradition to wear animal furs, simply because they need it in order to stay warm. And furs are accesible and afforable. But I don't see why some celebrity would need a seal cub fur coat or something like that. I'm not specifically against Seal hunting. I believe seals are not endangered anymore. And I heard it should also be done more in order to keep the number of fish up. But the whole clubbing deal rubs me the wrong way. Personally, I couldnt kill a seal cub with a club if it looked at me with those big round eyes. And I resent anyone who can:
