Is the Silent Hill HD Collection really that bad? - JillValentine - 04-21-2024

Hi, I really just want to play Silent Hill 2 (never played it before) but the PS2 version is way outside my price range and I don't have an Xbox. The HD collection is pretty cheap and I have a PS3 but I've seen a lot of people online saying that it's horrible and the worst way to play it. Is it really that bad though? Like would it still be fine for a first time player or is it just totally broken? ThanksĀ  Smile

Silent Hill 2 on the HD Collection is totally fine, honestly. Is it perfect? No. But the only downside I noticed on my playthrough (PS3, unpatched) was that there are framerate drops during outdoor segments. Wasn't really a big deal for me personally. And there are some minor upgrades to the game in the HD Collection, with improved lighting effects and a better grain filter. If you just want to play the game and don't care about nitpicky things like a slightly unstable framerate, it's a good option at a good price.

I can't speak for the Silent Hill 3 port on the HD collection as I have yet to try it, but apparently that one has some more serious issues with the changed voice acting and glitches. I'd recommend playing that one on the PS2 first and then maybe trying the HD Collection version on a second playthrough.
