We all should know this part in SH3, what I would like to know though is...
Has anyone here gotten the hidden secret to work where you stand at the edge before zapping the monster, examine the water, throw in your pipe, and get the fairy to appear and give you the gold and silver pipes? I have never even gotten a prompt to examine the water and have tried for an hour on end.
Is it just not possible in the PC version?

I've had it happen its actually pretty hilarious. Are you sure that it doesn't work though? Maybe you should check gamefaqs for the layout of how to do it.

I have and followed everything to a "T", I really think it is the PC version unless you had it happen on that version. Do you suppose there is a screenie anywhere so I can see what it all looks like?

Is there a difference between the gold and silver pipe?

Nope. They are both just a bit stronger than the steel pipe. Otherwise, nothing different.

correction. The silver pipe is stronger than the steel pipe, but the gold pipe is weaker than both the steel and silver pipes.
Interesting fact. If that pipe were made out of pure gold, and was 10 lbs, Heather could sell it for something like $258,000

I never noticed a difference between the two.
