Well, this is a bit of a side note, but to what you said Spider, that is actually a common practice these days. A guy my dad knows does a lot of work with video games, but he doesn't have the time to play them. So he has his friend play the video games and do everything you can in them while recording it. He then makes a movie for the first guy, and he can experience it without playing.
And yes, I think Silent Hill actually is akin to a horror movie in itself. So many people on IMDb said "If you want a direct adaptation of the game into a movie, just record yourself playing the game!" Hmm...maybe not a bad idea.
