Bowling Ball

Apparently (though I've never tried this) if you walk to the end of the road past the historical society in SH2 you find a bowling ball. Since I haven't done this yet I don't know whether you can pick it up and no one who has supposedly seen the bowling ball can remember.
I've tried looking for info on this on numerous walkthroughs, etc, but haven't turned up anything.
If anyone knows what the purpose is of the bowling ball/whether you can pick it up, that would be great.

I've walked to the end of the road past the Historical Society. I didn't find anything but a dead body that reminds me an awful lot of Harry. I tried interacting with it but nothing happened.

I went to the end of that road too, but no bowling ball for me either.

It must be an urban legend.

I've probably gone over every inch of the SH maps more often than most (especially since trying to map things) and I've never seen a bowling ball. Going past the historical society will eventually bring you to a bridge but it is washed out and you cannot cross farther than about 1/2 way. There nothing else on the bridge, not even monsters. There may be one or two monsters before the bridge but they aren't always there. I try to walk along each side of every street and cross over the center so not to miss anything. I may have though, but this is probably an myth.
