The meaning of the opening movie?
#1
Potential spoilers ahead:

After completing the game, the opening movie changes to show Harry and Cybil finding Cheryl/Alessa/Heather instead of Harry and Rose.

From what I can remember, there isn't really an explanation for this. We never hear from Cybil again within the games.

Just a trick played on the gamers, or do you think there is something more there?

The best explanation I heard for this was on the Black Heliz breakdown of SH, as far as the Twin Peaks connection (the intro being something of a montage of things that have already happened on the "show").

Replacing Harry's wife with Cybil is sort of a hint that this is a false ending; even though you have acheived happiness and everything is now OK, the vicious cycle continues...choosing "Next Fear" just stirs the pot and the whole thing starts all over again. Besides, the Good + ending just seems a little too good to be true for a Silent Hill game

According to one of the game creator's, what happened to Cybil is supposed to be left to our imagination. Since we never heard from her again, it's just sort of assumed that the Good ending, where Harry escaped but he killed Cybil in the process, is the true ending and true escape; thus, it is not seen in the intro. Did that make any sense?

The general understanding is that the Good ending is the "true" ending of Silent Hill. One of the staples of the Silent Hill games is an ending that, while it is complete, is far from a "and they lived happily ever after" ending. For example: with Silent Hill 2, Water (I think that is what it is called) is generally accepted to be the right ending. James' father (I can't remember his name, but I want to say Ralph) in SH4 says somewhere that his son disappeared in Silent Hill. And it just seems to fit the game better that James would kill himself to atone for his sins and to be with Mary. Silent Hill 3: I find it hard to believe everything is okay in the end. I think Heather killing Douglas fits much better.

thats a really cool thing about these games. any of the endings make sense to a certain extent. unlike other games where when the sequels come out it makes only one specific ending make sense ala' resident evil 1's multiple endings. i like the ufo endings. they give a pretty different take on the whole stories altogether. i really do like it, however, when endings like the dog ending are put in for a little bit of fun.

Now if only V.3 had more than two endings (three if you count the UFO one). I was quite disappointed in that.

Ah well, will save that for the V.3 threads.
