Is she real or is she there to prove something to James, like Maria is? I have recently been playing Silent Hill 2 over again, and I became interested in Laura again. In my opinion Laura represents the innocent side of Mary that James despised, and Maria represented the more wild sexual side that James always wanted. In the ending "leave" from SH2 I think that Laura was able to stay with James not in real life, but in his mind. We are seeing things from James' eyes and to him, Laura is walking beside him. I just think that in the end James has accepted the innocent side of Mary and to show his love for her he forgets about her other side- her wild side (Maria basically) and loves her for who she is. Which is why I believe that Laura is still with him, and Maria isn't, James has withdrawn that part of Mary from his memory and now loves her and doesn't care to much about the more "wild" side anymore.
I don't know, I just thought that I'd go on a rant about this because Laura's place in Silent Hill really interests me. Any thoughts?

Lost Memories states that she is a complete innocent who was called to the town to help James on his journey of self-discovery. It in no way implies that she is not real.

DAMN LOST MEMORIES! Sorry I just like to come up with my own theories and now they've spoiled it for me...

She is real but she could be a messenger too.

The messenger part is free to debate, and I believe her to be an integral part of the story and of James' realization of what he has done. She was brought to the town for a reason and it was not a malevolent one.
But with the fact that Konami has all but said that she is real, an argument about her existence or not is moot.

Your theory is not fully debunked SZ, Laura may be real but she was brought to the town to assist James and she knew Mary in the hospital. It could very well be she was meant as a reminder to James of some aspect of Mary, innocence and such. I'd like to know how Laura got to town. SH draws people to it, but they travel there always by conventional means (except Henry). Where are her parents? How does she get home? I know there's a theory she came with Eddie (and I personally believe the white van parked at the observation deck is Eddie's) but there's little evidence for or against.

It just happens that there is a whole tangent of fans who argue day in and out about whether Laura is a figment of James' imagination or if she is real.
She is real. Konami has not said a thing about her not being, and from the text within Lost Memories it is written in such a way to make her tangible.
I just wanted to kill the possible argument that was coming before it got started.
Not a slight on your theory at all.
Thats ok Spider, I know you weren't trying to slight my theory but I do feel that Laura was there in Silent Hill to tell James something and I think my theory still holds true (like Cap said) if I just change it around a little...

There's also another theory that goes that Laura grew up in Wish House.
