I know someone here has played them, so being a survival horror site, I'm guessing other people here must have been curious and checked them out..

I never played the first one, which is supposed to be the best. But I did play the second one, and I liked it, although it was reputed for being crap.

But thirteen endings and bizarre atmosphere and weirdo story. It took a bit of getting used to, but I thought it was fun, as it wasn't as predictable as the third one.

Which I also played, and liked less. The concept was awesome, but in my opinion, not very well executed. I mean eventually, you always knew where the stalkers would pop out of, but in the second game everything was completely random, always surprising you.

The stalkers in the third looked cool, but I don't think they fit in very well with the type of ambience..they looked more like they'd belong in a Soul Calibur game or something.

But still, it's a decent horror series, if not for everyone.

What about everyone else? Did you try them, what do you think?

I'm playing the Japanese version right now and... well It's simply amazing. the voice acting is all in english, even if it's a Japanese release... so it really is quite playable. The US release is a bit too pricy for my taste.

Does anyone remember all the spots you need to use your Channeling Stone at in order to get the UFO ending? My girlfriend just got the greatest hits version and I want to finally see that thing for myself, but I can't for the life of me remember where to use the stone (or where you pick the stone up from in the first place, for that matter).

Unlockables

All Weapons Mode - Beat One Weapon Mode with a 10 star rank
Brand New Fear Mode - Complete the game on any difficulty, then save the game after the credits.
Chainsaw - Beat the game once, save and load the new data. Then, in the Forest World, near the car, search for a cut trunk, the Chainsaw is right beside it.
Cynthia's Special Costume - Finish the game with all four endings on one slot. Start a new game and select Eileen's nurse uniform to have Cynthia wearing her special costume.
Eileen's Nurse Costume - Complete the game on any skill level and then restart using the same save. Check room 303 for the costume. It can be selected on the 3rd run through.
Eileen's Sub-Machine gun - Get at least 9 stars in a Brand New Fear fear file in hard mode.
Full Weapon Mode - Score a 100 rank in One Weapon Mode
One Weapon Mode - Get 10 big stars in hard mode

Eileen's Glitch: Building World 2

After you take Eileen to the elevator, select bottom floor from the panel. Go out the door here, and look for the Holy Candle in a corner. Take the Candle if you'd like, then get Eileen to follow you around to here. Push her into that corner, and make a fast break for the Elevator farthest away from this corner. Enter it as fast as you can. If Henry appears alone in the elevator, you've done it. If not, go outside and try the whole process over again from pushing her into the corner until he does appear in there alone.

When he finally shows up in the elevator alone, go down the ladder in here. On this screen, continue forward along the linear path until you trigger the two Walter cutscenes. Then continue along to the next screen -- you should notice Eileen on the other side of the fence along the way. After this, go back to the previous screen. You should wait where you enter, and you'll eventually see Eileen running straight at you on the right side of the fence. Now you can continue along to the Bar where you can enter the door code, since you don't have to escort Eileen the long way.

Unlockable Weapons

Beam Sabre - Kill more enemies by fighting than shooting. This weapon turns into the Sexy Beam when you have the transform costume equipped.
Flamethrower - Kill more enemies by shooting than fighting. If you do not get this weapon on your first playthrough, you will get it automatically on your second.
Gold & Silver Pipes - Throw your steel pipe into the sewers and answer the three questions as follows: No, No, Yes.
Heather Beam / Sexy Beam - Accumulate a total of 333 enemy kills. (Accumulate in one playthrough or multiple playthroughs. Boss enemies included.) The Heather Beam turns into the Sexy Beam when you have the Transform Costume equipped.
Infinite SMG ammo - Defeat the final boss with a melee weapon.

Unlocking the endings

Normal - Beat the game simply by not killing too many enemies.
Possessed - Kill over 100+ enemies. Forgive the person in the church. Take over 2000 points worth of damage.
Revenge (UFO) - Get to Heathers apartment killing 30+ enemies using only the Heather Beam.

Easier Flamethrower and multiple game completions

Before completing the game, make sure you save relatively close to the last boss (to save time), then complete the game as normal. Save the results after the end credits. Load the game you saved before the last boss and defeat it again. Even though you did not go through the game again fully, this counts as another game completion. This is an easy way to get the flamethrower if you did not get it the first time. It's also a quick way to raise the bullet multiplier in the extra options.

Access beginner mode & extra options.

Like all the other Silent Hill press all four shoulder buttons on the options menu.

To access beginner fighting mode you have to die twice in the normal game. To change the fighting to beginner mode go to the extra options menu.

Douglas in Boxers

Beat the game once, select ''Extra New Game'' option at the main menu and press Up(x2), Down(x2), Left, Right, Left, Right, Circle, X. Heather will sigh after you choose a difficulty and riddle level to confirm the code. During the scenes where you see Douglas, he will be wearing his boxers.

Extra scenes

First, use a memory card with at least one finished saved game file from Silent Hill 2. New interactions with some objects and new scenes will now be available. These scenes are similar or with some type of reference to the previous game. For example, Heather trying to look for something stuck into the toilet in the mall.

Zoom

During gameplay, press and hold L3 and L2 to zoom in on the scenery. Works wonders for exploration...

Endings

Bad Ending - Simply skip over the sequences in Annie's Bar, Indian Runner and the Motel. Then kill Cybil when you battle her at the fairground.
Bad+ Ending - Simply skip over the sequences in Annie's Bar, Indian Runner and the Motel. Then save Cybil when you battle her at the fairground.
Good Ending - Play the game through, without skipping ANY missions. But kill Cybil at the Lakeside Amusement Park.
Good+ Ending - Dont skip over the sequences in Annie's Bar, Indian Runner and the Motel. Then SAVE Cybil when you battle her at the fairground.

Unlockables

Alternative Opening Scene - Beat The Game Whith The Good+ Ending
Chainsaw - Beat the game once on any mode with the Good+ Ending. Now go to the Gas Station near the church and grab the Gas Container. Head to the Chain Saw Store located on the map to get the Chainsaw.
Channeling Stone - Get the Good+ Ending. Then, save a Next Fear Save and then go to the Convenience Store in Old Silent Hill. Inside, on the counter, is the Channeling Stone.
Green Beam Hyperblaster - Get a 10-Star Rating
Hyperblaster - Beat the game once with a Good + rating, then beat the game again with the secret UFO ending on Next Fear mode. The next Next Feat game you play you will have the Hyperblaster.
Orange Beam Hyperblaster- Get a Ranking Of 8 Stars or More
Katana - Beat the game on hard mode and start a New Fear game. Look in the Levin Street House where you use the Dog House Key. In the hallway connecting the front of the house to the kitchen to door will be open.
Rock Drill - Beat the game once on any mode with an ending. Then go to the Gas Station and pick up the Gas Container. Then go to the first floor of the Bridge Control Room and get the Rock Drill.

UFO Ending
Get the Good+ ending, make a Next Fear Save and get the Channeling Stone. Use the Channeling Stone in the following areas:

Alchemilla Hospital Courtyard (Before fighting Moth Boss)

Lakeside Silent Hill Motel's Parking Lot

When you arrive at the School, go to the office and you'll find the names of three teachers are, K. Gordon, L. Ronaldo and T. Moore, three members of the band Sonic Youth.

Open up the Options menu, press L1, L2, R1 or R2 to open an extra menu.

Get HyperBlaster without beating the game
To get a working HyperBlaster without finishing the game with a GOOD+ ending. Plug the old Konami LightGun (the HyperBlaster) into controller port 2 then start a new game. It'll be in your inventory.

There is quite a debate about whether Pyramid Head is a manifestation of James' guilt or if other people within Silent Hill can see him, which leads many to tend to believe that Pyramid Head is not a manifestation.

What we do know:

James visited the Historical Society during his first trip to Silent Hill. Within there there is a painting depicting the executioners during the time Silent Hill was a prison camp. The executioners wore the same outfit as Pyramid Head.

Who has seen Pyramid Head:

James - Obviously, as James is the one who has to fight him.

Maria - As a (true) manifestation of James' psyche, she is attuned to all that James can see.

Angela - No evidence that she has seen Pyramid Head. Nonetheless I don't think this can be ruled out as she does see some monsters, such as Abstract Daddy. She also warns James within the cemetery that the town is not safe. While this is from her own experience and most likely set of monsters, if she is seeing monsters then most likely she could see Pyramid Head if she wanted to.

Laura - She doesn't see anything but an empty town with a few people running around.

Eddie - He might see something, but he would most likely see Pyramid Head as a friend. Eddie's trip into madness is quick and severe and has affected his mentality. After the bowling alley the next time we see Eddie is, if I remember correctly, after the Prison right before the lake. If Eddie had to take the same route as James to get to the warehouse area, then Eddie would have had to walk by/around/right above Pyramid Head in the circular basement where James picks up the Great Knife. Pyramid Head could have appeared as a friend to Eddie so that Eddie would face James and feed the guilt in James for killing another person.

Mary - She is dead. If she sees anything it is from her grave.

Those are my thoughts on it. I think Pyramid Head truly is not a manifestation of James' psyche, but was his antagonist due to his prior knowledge of the town's history. What better way to punish yourself for murder then to have an executioner following you around?

Spoilers for SH2 lurk here.

There's been alot of questions about the black butterflies in the end of Silent Hill 2, and this is what I found out.

According to the Native people of Aztec there was a goddess known as Itzpapalotl. According to the myth she's a beautiful/desirable looking woman, but that one should be careful because once embraced she will turn into the Obsidian Butterfly Maiden. It also mentions that stone knives will come out of it's eyes, mouth, and genital area.

(note: Obsidian = Black)

Hmm that sounds familiar.

Maria was a desirable looking woman who once embraced by James later transformed into, well an obsidian butterfly maiden. She spit black butterflies out of her mouth, and had a tentacle like thing emerging from her genital area.

Something else about Itzpapalotl. She was also the ruler over Tomoanchan a type of paradise. It is said that this is where the victims of infant mortality are kept, suckling on a tree that contains 400,000 nipples. The babies do this until they have enough strength to be rebirthed.

Any thoughts on this?

Ok I have to ask... is there a map for the amusement park? I tried and tried and tried some more to find one, but I never did. If somebody out there can divulge this information I would really appreciate it. Also, if I used divulge improperly, lemme know

Hey, I really want to try playing some survival horror games and start collecting them but the games are so expensive! I wanted to check out the Silent Hill series in particular but all of the games are over $100! Are there any good survival horror games that don't cost alot?
